Rhinoplasty Can Place Your Facial Features in Harmony
If you are dissatisfied with the shape of your nose, rhinoplasty might be the cosmetic solution for you. During a rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a “nose job,” Dr. Benjamin Boudreaux and Dr. Jeffrey Claiborne can reshape your nose to achieve the appearance you desire. Rhinoplasty can address the tip and bridge of your nose, as well as the nostrils and septum. A rhinoplasty designed at our New Orleans Metro-area practice can help you achieve the appearance you have always wanted, and dramatically boost your self-esteem. Rhinoplasty Candidates
You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you are unhappy with the shape of your nose and have specific, realistic goals for its improvement. Rhinoplasty should only be performed on patients whose facial structures have completed development. For optimal healing, candidates should be non-smokers and in good health. During a thorough initial consultation, Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will carefully determine whether rhinoplasty is right for you.
How Rhinoplasty Can Refine Your Features
Whether your nose has been injured, or you are simply unhappy with its dimensions, rhinoplasty can reshape and reposition cartilage to address height, width, or length. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will customize your procedure based on your goals. Rhinoplasty can:
- Reduce or remove a bump from the bridge
- Fill in a depression on the bridge
- Add or remove cartilage from the tip of the nose
- Reposition nostrils closer to the bridge
- Correct an asymmetrical nose
- Correct a deviated septum, improving your ability to breathe properly
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Before your surgery, an anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist will administer general anesthesia to ensure your best possible comfort during surgery. Next, Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will create carefully concealed incisions to minimize visible scarring. They perform both closed and open rhinoplasty, which will determine the location of the incisions. In closed rhinoplasty, the incisions will be located inside your nostrils. In open rhinoplasty, he will create an incision across the columella, or the strip of tissue between the nostrils. Through these incisions, they will gently raise the underlying soft tissue to access the cartilage and bone structure. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will remove any excess cartilage, and may also perform a cartilage graft to enhance the shape of your nose.
If you suffer from a deviated septum, they will carefully straighten this cartilage before closing the incisions using sutures or surgical tape. Immediately after your rhinoplasty, you will experience some swelling. As it subsides, you will begin to notice the refined contours of your nose, though the final results may take a year to become fully apparent. After this adjustment period is complete, rhinoplasty patients can enjoy results that last a lifetime.
