Laser Tattoo Removal with Picosure

The cause behind getting tattooed can be a number of reasons. Millions of Americans choose to get a tattoo because they want to use them as a symbol of remembrance.  Whether it is a loved one, a major event in life, a best friend, a relationship, serving for our country or maybe it was a really long night with some really good drinks. But hey, at least they all give you a great story to tell right? The tattoo industry is constantly booming. Research has shown that tattoo parlors bring in up to $2.3 billion a year. With that being said, as long as people are getting them there is always room for change and the tattoo removal industry is steadily climbing.

In the last 10 years the tattoo removal business has skyrocketed to a 440 percent increase to a $7.5 million dollar profit. Meaning more people are regretting the choice of their ink. Sometimes those tattoos don’t always turn out like we’d hoped, we moved on within our career or maybe the memories that were once good are holding you back from moving on with your future. If this is the case for you, let Picosure be the answer.

Northshore Plastic Surgery, located in the New Orleans metro area is the home to the only Picosure laser in southern Louisiana. We currently are bringing in patients from all surrounding states in the south that are looking to be treated by this particular laser. The Picosure is one of the most advanced laser technologies existing; being the only laser that is 100 X’s shorter than a nanosecond laser. In comparison this laser will remove a tattoo faster with fewer treatments than with a Q-switch.

How It Works

Picosure is photomechanical, meaning that it specifically targets the ink in the tattoo and shatters it with a fast picosecond wavelength that reduces the ink to sand sized particles. Your immune system then becomes responsible to remove those tiny particles through the lymphatic system and filtration of the kidneys.

What To Expect

It is important to have realistic expectations when entering the tattoo removal process. Rarely is there going to be a one and done treatment with it fully erased. This is a process that requires patience in order for you to heal correctly and to let your body do its job.  Every tattoo varies in size, shape, depth, darkness or the color of ink used.  One of the first questions that is asked is if the treatments are painful, yes, treatments can be uncomfortable especially in more tender areas. However, a topical numbing cream is applied 15-20 minutes prior to your treatment. Also, we use a Zimmer which is a machine that blows cold air during treatment to reduce discomfort. After your treatment you should expect blistering that will most like subside within a few days.

Trusting The Process

Again, this is going to be a gradual process. We have had patients come in who have had multiple treatments with a Q-switch laser seeing little to no change with a number of sessions vs. a drastic improvement with just one treatment of the Picosure. Regardless of having treatments by another laser we treat all tattoos as though it is the first time being treated. The number of treatments will vary due to the color of ink, tattoo location, age of tattoo and a person’s skin type.

Types Of Ink That We Treat

All colors of ink is treatable, black, blue, green, red, yellow, orange etc… Red ink and colors integrated with red will take more treatments. Different colors of ink react differently for example blues and greens resolve quicker compared to the red, yellow, orange and black takes more treatments.
