Deciding Between Silicone & Saline Implants

Multiple Options for Personalized Treatment
Patients generally have two options for implants: saline and silicone. Both are FDA-approved and offer their own particular advantages. Because saline is simply a saltwater solution, saline implants are considered a safer option. In the event of a rupture, our bodies can naturally absorb saline. However, silicone implants are often preferred for their more natural look and feel.
In addition to the type of implant, the doctor will also determine what type of incision is most appropriate for your goals. Your options include an inframammary incision under the natural fold of the breast, a periareolar incision around your nipple or an incision in your armpit. Taking into account your body type and aesthetic goals, Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will choose an incision method that will result in minimal scarring, allowing you to enjoy your stunning new figure to the fullest.

Recovering from Breast Surgery
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, and most patients can return home a few hours after their surgery.
It is important to set aside plenty of time to recuperate. Dr. Boudreaux, Dr. Claiborne and their team will provide you with a comprehensive list of post-operative instructions so that you can be prepared for the surgery and recovery.
For the first 24 to 48 hours, some degree of pain and fatigue is normal. You can normally manage discomfort with a combination of prescription and over-the-counter medications. If possible, it is helpful to have a close friend or family member stay with you to assist you during this time period.
Swelling and sensitivity in the breasts is normal and can continue for up to five weeks.
During the first week of recovery, patients should avoid all strenuous activity, including lifting, bending, or straining. These activities can impede healing and cause additional pain and discomfort. Most patients find they can return to work in about one week. However, those with physically demanding jobs will need longer.
Swelling and sensitivity in the breasts is normal and can continue for up to five weeks. To reduce discomfort, patients should avoid sexual activity or other forms of physical contact with their breasts until the swelling subsides. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne can discuss the recovery requirements with you prior to your procedure so that you have a thorough understanding of the necessary time commitment.
Immediate & Long-Term Effects
The results of breast augmentation are immediately noticeable. As the swelling and bruising decreases, your results will become increasingly apparent and should begin to align with your expectations. Keep in mind that it could take up to one year for your surgery to reflect its final results. Because every augmentation procedure is personally customized by Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne, your results should be natural-looking and well-suited to your body type.
Although breast implants can last 10-20 years without needing to be replaced, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and natural aging can affect your final results. You should maintain regular follow-up visits to our plastic surgery center so that Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne can check the integrity of your breast implants over time.
