Laser Vein Removal Can Dramatically Reduce the Appearance of Spider Veins
Laser vein removal, offered at our New Orleans, LA, practice, can minimize the appearance of spider veins that are commonly found on the legs, feet, and face. In some cases, very small varicose veins can also be removed. Dr. Benjamin Boudreaux and Dr. Jeffrey Claiborne at Northshore Plastic Surgery spend quality time on every procedure, ensuring that your vein therapy is safe and effective. This noninvasive cosmetic surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with no down time.
What is Laser Vein Removal?
Laser vein removal is an advanced cosmetic procedure designed to remove or minimize unwanted visible veins via laser therapy. It uses a focused beam of light to heat up small veins and destroy them without harming the nearby skin and tissues. Within a few weeks, the body reabsorbs the vein and it disappears.
Viable candidates for laser vein therapy include patients who bothered by spider veins and tiny varicose veins. If you have large, knotted varicose veins, you may benefit from a more in-depth procedure, such as vein removal surgery.
Most patients are very satisfied with the results of their procedure and the freedom they feel from no longer having to hide their spider veins.
Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will perform a detailed consultation to ensure you are a good candidate for this treatment, and carefully explain the details of the procedure. They will also provide you with aftercare instructions to help you achieve optimal recovery.
Steps to Laser Vein Removal
This simple procedure can usually be completed in less than 20 minutes. However, multiple treatments will likely be needed to achieve the desired results.
- Preparation: Although there are no major preparations required, you should avoid sun exposure, alcohol, smoking, and aspirin for at least a week before your procedure. Do not apply any lotions on the treatment area the day of your procedure.
- Procedure: Most patients do not require anesthesia. However, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the skin. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne will move a hand-held laser device over the treatment area. During treatment, you may feel a tingling sensation. After treatment, you skin may be reddish or slightly bruised, and you may feel a bump on the skin. These side effects should dissipate after a few days.
- Aftercare: If you feel any discomfort, an over-the-counter pain reliever should be sufficient. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne may recommend that you wear support hose to facilitate healing. You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment, but be sure to stay out of the sun.
Your results will not be noticeable right away. Gradually, the veins will become lighter in color, and then start to disappear. You should have noticeable results in two to six weeks. Typically, patients are recommended to have additional treatments as needed four to six weeks apart. Most patients are very satisfied with the results of their procedure and the freedom they feel from no longer having to hide their spider veins. The treatment area should be much clearer, and should continue to improve with additional treatments.
