Sometimes All You Need Is a Neck Lift

Many people are happy with their faces but are bothered by the signs of aging in their necks. While Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne regularly include a neck lift with other procedures, such as a facelift, many people do not need additional treatments. If your face is aging well, a neck lift may be all you need to take years off your appearance.

Erase Years From Your Looks Call for a Consultation

Smiling Lady

Because neck lifts vary significantly from patient to patient, a consultation is the only sure way to understand what you can achieve. Some people have pockets of excess fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, while others are looking to erase the "turkey wattle" under their chin. Or perhaps loose neck muscles are creating vertical neck bands.

Dr. Boudreaux or Dr. Claiborne will assess your neck to determine which technique, or combination of techniques, will best address your concerns. Techniques we commonly use to revitalize necks include liposuction, tightening of the underlying neck muscle, and redraping skin on the neck.

If you're looking for expert answers from noted board-certified plastic surgeons, request a consultation at Northshore Plastic Surgery in Mandeville. We draw patients from Metairie and throughout greater New Orleans as well as the Northshore.

What Can a Neck Lift Treat?

Gravity, heredity, and even stress can rob you of the youthful looks you cherish. While the eyes often show the first signs of aging, necks run a close second. A neck lift procedure, also called a lower rhytidectomy, can address multiple signs of aging in your neck and let you cast off the turtlenecks and scarves you've been hiding behind. Among the issues a neck lift can resolve:

Muscle banding in the neck

Fat deposits under the chin

Loose skin in the neck

I did a lot in a month. From dysport & juviderm. To a beast lift/argumentation and thigh lift. They educated me fully, I did go prepared with a book of questions. Most were answered before I even asked. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Boudreax and his entire staff. I had 4 different consultations before choosing NSPS, he may have been a little higher-But because he gave me top quality everything. Worth every penny!

Dr. Benjamin Boudreaux and his entire office staff are fantastic. What a well-run doctor's office! Dr. Boudreaux is also one of the most conscientious and personable physicians that I have ever met. I recommend Dr. Boudreaux to anyone who is interested in pursuing a personal aesthetics procedure. The office manager, nurses and staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. Thank you Dr. B!

Erase Vertical Neck Bands We Specialize in Platysmaplasty Neck Lifts

Before Neck Lift
After Neck Lift
While there are many types of neck lifts, the platysmaplasty neck lift is among the most common neck procedures at Northshore Plastic Surgery. This neck lift surgery targets the platysma muscles, which become weak and lose elasticity with time. When this occurs, it shows up as deep vertical lines or bands in the neck.

A regular neck lift pulls the platysma sideways and up; however, with a platysmaplasty neck lift, the muscles are tightened by pulling lax muscle tissue to the center of your neck, much like how a corset pulls in the waist for a trim appearance. After the muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed to reveal a smooth, younger-looking neck. The "corset" neck lift also creates an attractive, sharp transition between the neck and jaw.

Our personalized neck lift recommendations are tailored to your unique needs. We can also combine a neck lift with other procedures such as liposuction or non-surgical skin treatments to complement your results.

Neck Lift Surgery Steps

The exact steps in your neck lift surgery will differ depending on the specific ways your neck has been changed with age. During your consultation, Dr. Boudreaux or Dr. Claiborne will assess your needs and explain the procedure best suited for the results you desire.

Our plastic surgeons excel at providing natural-looking cosmetic enhancements and compassionate care.

We will carefully administer anesthesia so you will be comfortable throughout your procedure. Typical anesthesia for a neck lift can include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Our doctors will recommend an appropriate method based on the type of neck lift procedure you will receive.

The Incision

Incisions will be based on your procedure. In many cases, incisions will be made behind the ear or under the chin. Dr. Boudreaux and Dr. Claiborne take care to make the incisions discreet. They will carefully go over the type of incisions they will use you during your consultation.

Surgical Steps

Depending on the technique used in your neck lift, the surgeons may remove excess fat deposits under the skin, tighten the platysma muscles, and remove excess, sagging skin to create a toned, smoother neck and defined jawline.

Closing the Incision

The surgeon will close the incisions with sutures, and you will be carefully monitored in one of our private recovery rooms.

Neck Lift Recovery

Woman with neck and head bandage

Following the neck lift procedure, patients typically experience minimal discomfort, which can typically be controlled with over-the-counter pain medication. You should wear a compression bandage and sleep with your head elevated for the first few days after your procedure. You should also plan to take some time off from work and avoid physical activity. Although you may experience some swelling immediately after your neck lift, as your healing progresses, you will begin to notice the stunning results of a significantly rejuvenated appearance.
